I am Boris Verbrugge, a 26-year-old creative Belgian guy living in Oulu. I love to hand code websites and I am searching for a place where I can develop awesome websites and enhance my coding skills even further. This because for me it's not just coding, it's a passion. Below is a list of the magic I am using to code and develop websites. Every time I make a website I try to improve my developing skills by studying new techniques and by letting the creativity loose. Click on the titles below to see some Javascript going:
I implement these next-generation techniques to the extent that is currently possible. This to improve the semantics and the layout of a web page.
I use Javascript and jQuery to create powerful and dynamic web pages containing interaction, animation, dynamic effects and widgets (e.g. image sliders, menu drop-down, Fancybox, scrollTo, ...).
I have a basic knowledge and understanding of these codes and CMS (e.g. coding forms with PHP, redesigning Wordpress themes with CSS and a little PHP). When I can I use lynda.com or tutsplus.com to learn about login and database systems (MySQL) and their different codes (PHP, SQL).
I always code from scratch in notepad++ to be able to fully bend the code to my will.
When designing my web code I always consider the principles of progressive enhancement and graceful degradation. This to make my code compatible with IE6, IE7 and standards compliant browsers and of course I also validate my code.
I make my design prototypes in Photoshop before I start with the coding.
I speak 3 languages very good (Flemish = Dutch, French and English) and at the moment I am also learning the Finnish language (level A2.2/B1.1). This can be useful when a website needs to be translated in one of these languages. With those languages I can also search for different designs, tips and tricks in different articles across borders and it could be useful when a company wants to extend its services into a broader market.
